Physically, Cetyltrimethylammonium Chloride CTAC is distinguished as a transparent to light yellow liquid having an odour reminiscent of rubbing alcohol. When mixed with water, the product having a molecular weight of 320.002 g/mol either floats or sinks in the water. It is also known by other names like cetrimonium chloride. In the field of speciality chemicals, the product is widely famed as a topical antiseptic and surfactant. Much of its effectiveness stems from its excellent conditioning characteristics, for which the product is used as an ingredient in manufacturing hair shampoos and conditioners. Hair care products formulated using CTAC are known to deeply nourish and hydrate dry and damaged hair and bring back a renewed shine and vigour to lacklustre locks.
